Drama and Sketches

My first success with writing, back when I was a teenager, was with drama and live theatre has always been a love of mine (Am I a frustrated playwright? I’m not sure)

In the last few years I’ve had more then several sketches performed by The Treason Show. This page has those sketches and other pieces of drama I’ve written

The Treason Show

This is a satirical review show, that’s performed monthly in Brighten. The sketches and songs take satirical swipes at events from the recent headlines, think Spitting Image but with actors but not puppets. You can find out more about them at their website here.

Since the summer of 2011 I’ve had my sketches included in their shows, here are the scripts of the sketches that have been performed. (If you want to use one of these sketches or one of the sketches that didn’t get into the show contact me here)

The Treason Show  (Also Runs)

For all the sketches that I have had performed in The Treason Show there are a dozen that didn’t make it, for whatever the reason. Here’s a selection of sketches that didn’t make it but are still are writing I’m happy with and they certainly show off my writing style and sense of humour.

Diamond Jubilee Concert Preparations

On 4th June 2012 there was a concert, outside Buckingham Palace, to celebrate The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. These six monologues imagine different concerns of members of the Royal Family about who would be performing at the concert and what they would be singing (!!).

Gay Marriage Monologues

In May 2013, the House of Commons voted on Marriage (Same Sex Couples) Bill, the Bill to legalise same sex marriage. They voted for it, despite of the Tory Homophobes’ protests.  These ten monologues were written in the run-up to that vote and highlighted many of the prejudices circulating at the time.

A Traditional Marriage”, this sketch was also written in the run-up to the debate.

Three Sketches on Pope Benedict’s Resignation

In March 2013, Pope Benedict resigned. Those three sketches were written in response to that news. Typical of me, they are not reverential.

50 Shades of Parody

50 Shades of Grey has been a publishing sensation and as so has been widely parodied. This sketch is my take on all of that.
